A pedestrian hit an ambulance, police said

According to Wilmington, North Carolina police, a pedestrian was hit by an ambulance as he was crossing the street.

A pedestrian has been fatally struck in Wilmington, North Carolina, police say.

Wilmington police said the man was crossing Carolina Beach Road shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, when he was struck by an emergency vehicle.

Paramedics attempted to save the man before he was taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to a Dec. 21 news release. The man died in the hospital.

The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.

Wilmington is about 130 miles southeast of Raleigh.
