SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, SC (WCBD) – A man was shot and killed Friday after attempting to illegally enter Shaw Air Force Base, according to a release from the 20th Fighter Wing.
The attacker, described as a “passer-by”, was shot dead by an airman from the 20th Security Forces Squadron at around 1.30pm.
“Our security forces personnel are trained to respond to a variety of situations to ensure the safety of our personnel and property,” said Col. Christopher Smith, commander of the 20th Fighter Wing.
The person was taken to a medical facility for medical treatment.
Shaw Air Force Base said the incident is being investigated by the 20th Security Forces Squadron, as well as local and federal authorities.
