According to police, the man reported an “improvised device” after a shooting in the neighborhood

Jacksonville, Florida – Reports of gunfire in the area turned into an investigation into a dangerous device for Jacksonville police on Thursday morning when a man reported finding an “improvised device” in his backyard.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the man called police to his home on Mulberry Street, northeast of Tallulah Avenue, just before 7 a.m. after someone shot his car.

When police arrived for the investigation, he told them he had found a “handy device” near his home in the yard a few days ago. Investigators do not know why the man did not report the device earlier.

Officers said the device seemed suspicious enough that the man had been evacuated, and a department of dangerous devices was called in to investigate. They worked to determine what kind of device it was.

Investigators said the device appeared to be damaged, but it was unclear whether it had exploded.

Police said they had no suspicious information, but it appears to be an isolated incident.
