EEOC investigators found the social media manager was fired because of concerns about “postpartum reliability,” even though she had “positive work and attendance records” before the pregnancy, officials said.
“Employers are prohibited by federal law from making employment decisions based on stereotypes that suggest a pregnant employee’s performance will simply decline after giving birth,” said Elizabeth M. Cannon, director of the EEOC’s Seattle field office. liberation.
By law, employers cannot discriminate in employment with respect to pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, according to the EEOC.
The companies and the former worker have reached a settlement, according to the release.
In addition to paying the worker $37,000 in damages, businesses must also prevent future discrimination by “implementing policies, procedures and training designed to increase accountability and oversight of managers and employees.”

Newport is near the Washington-Idaho border, about 50 miles northeast of Spokane.
Hayden, Idaho is about 35 miles northeast of Spokane.
