CLEVELAND – Stephen Curry got another 3-point record. LeBron James won another All-Star Game victory.
Good night in Ohio for the two stars from Akron.
“It’s just on the nose as it should go,” Curry said.
Curry turned uh and aaa with the highest long-range shooting in the history of the All-Star Game, then James made a turning point that gave LeBron’s team a win over Durant’s team on Sunday night with a score of 163-160.
Curry made 16 3-pointers and scored 50 points, two above Anthony Davis ’record. He was clearly hunting for it, asking on the sidelines during a turbulent third quarter how many points it would take.
On the night both players were some of the outstanding players who were honored during the A break ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the NBACurry and James have shown why they continue to stand out among the best to date.
Curry, who earlier this season became the leader in the NBA’s three-point career, missed the last attempt outside the arc that would have allowed him to surpass Davis. But due to the fact that James ’team needed a basket to reach the target score of 163 points, they could not afford to continue to feed Curry.
So James rose from the depths on the right to win, making it 5-0 in a format where leaders were gaining votes in every draft team conference.
The return of the Match of the Stars to Cleveland was expected to take place on James night. He is the best player of the Cavaliers franchise, which led them to the 2016 NBA Single Championship.
Instead, he appropriately starred with Curry, who was born in the same Akron hospital three years later.
“Obviously I got an MVP; I played well all night. “He won the game,” said Curry.
Janis Antetokunmpa scored 30 points, increasing the average by 28.8, which was already the best in the history of the All-Star Game. James finished 24 in his old house. Joel Embide led the Duran team with 36 points.
Curry finished 16 of 27 outside the arc – sometimes well, well behind. He launched several of the All Star 2022 logo near the middle of the court, running back without even waiting to see how anyone would enter.
The 3-point arc is just over 23 feet. Curry did throws from 37, 33 and 34 feet during one segment of the third quarter,
“This guy is from another planet. He literally has an automatic sniper rifle attached to his arm, and when he releases it, not only himself, but everyone on the floor, in the stands, on TV, on phones, whatever you watch, you think it’s happening every once, ”James said. “Nine times out of 10 and sometimes 10 times out of 10, it really happens.
“It was incredible to be there and watch the guy from Akron also bounce the ball the way he shot it,” said James. “It was really cool.”
Curry was lit up all weekend, smiling through the sounds while dating before the game, when Cleveland fans made it clear they didn’t forgive him for helping Golden State beat the Cavaliers three times in the 2015-18 NBA Finals.
But fans enjoyed his show too much to continue the game, although the sounds came back when he was presented with the MVP award, which in 2020 was renamed after Kobe Bryant, who won a record four of them.
Kobe Bryant’s trophy was reworked this year and given to Curry in front of a crowd, including Bryant’s wife, Vanessa.
Curry received 11 of 12 votes for the award, and James received second through a vote of supporters.
Michael Jordan was the last player represented at the break ceremony, and James said his winning shot was inspired by a twist that Jordan perfected during his career at the Hall of Fame. It earned $ 450,000 for the Kent State I Promise Scholars program, a charity played by James’ team.
“He wanted the ball. We all knew he was going to shoot, ”said Darius Garland of Cleveland. Fadeaway, you understand? He wanted to win for the school. That’s why in the fourth he walked so hard. So in the fourth all went hard. Just to see it come in, just to see the crowd break out in his hometown, it was cool to see. ”
It was an exciting All-Star Game finish that was played again in front of a crowded hall after the 2021 game was held in much of the empty State Farm Arena in Atlanta, moved there due to a coronavirus pandemic after it was originally scheduled for Indianapolis .
The introduction before the game ended with a thunderous roar for James, who responded with one of his own. His home fans cheered again when he made his branded throw before the game, and he aggressively scored nine points to help LeBron’s team win the first quarter 47-45.
Then it became Curry’s show.
In the second quarter he made six threes and scored 18 points, although Durant’s team won the period. He made another seven 3 and scored 21 in the third when the teams played with a 45 draw.
James defeated Curry when they were captains in 2018, the first year after the NBA abandoned the traditional East-West format. James then defeated Atetokunmpa in the next two years.
This time he selected both two-time NBA MVP along with Nikola Jokic, the current MVP. His team won for the second year in a row at the club under captain Kevin Durant, who was unable to play due to a sprained left knee ligament.
Chris Paul did play – for a short time – despite a thumb injury to his right hand reported by TNT that would not have allowed him to come out for at least six weeks. During the two-minute stay, Paul played, closing his thumb.
The Cavaliers ’two all-star games went well: Garland scored 13 points and Jarrett Allen blocked Embiid’s shot when the game was a draw of 155. The duo played with James, Curry and Atetakunmp during the key fourth quarter.
Devin Booker scored 20 points, LaMella Ball scored 18 and Dejonte Murray scored 17 points for Durant.
