A Dawson County man was arrested Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit as part of a child pornography investigation.
John Leonard Maxfield Jr., 41, has been charged with nine counts of child sexual exploitation, according to a GBI news release. Two of those counts were for distribution and seven counts were for possession of child sexual abuse material.
The GBI began investigating Maxfield’s online activity after receiving a report from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office regarding possible possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. That investigation led to a search warrant at Maxfield’s home and his arrest. The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the execution of the search warrant.
After his arrest, Maxfield was taken to the Dawson County Jail.
“This investigation is part of an ongoing effort by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force within the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit to identify those involved in the trafficking of child sexual abuse material.” , – says the release. “The ICAC program, created by the US Department of Justice, was developed in response to the increase in the number of children and adolescents using the Internet, the distribution of child sexual abuse materials, and the increased activity of online predators seeking unsupervised contact with minors. victims”.
