Game preview Kentucky vs Tennessee
Why Kentucky wins
If we are really making this ranking based right now, no one is playing better than Kentucky.
The six games of the winning Wildcats series dominate inside, they hit their threes and they were pretty good from the free throw line.
There may be too many turns, but the defense makes up for it – especially against three – and it’s all cleared up on the boards.
The UK is leading the country in rebounds – it has come up with a ridiculous 17 offensive rebounds in the win over Florida – and Tennessee is just fine on the boards.
Vol D did not pray in defeat by Wildcats 107-79 back in mid-January, and even won the lead with a score of 1.
Why Tennessee Wins
Tennessee walked away from losing to Texas and got four solid wins in a row that got him back on track.
Against Vanderbilt it didn’t shoot well and won by owning boards. He fought well against South Carolina and Mississippi on the road with falling tees, and continues to do a great job on the other end, forcing twists and turns.
Kentucky doesn’t give the ball a ton, but it will be good to have at least ten turns in it. Vols know how to turn them into scores. But…
What will happen
That’s the problem for Tennessee. Lately he’s been giving up a ton of free throws.
The defense is aggressive, and fouls in general haven’t been such a big deal, but even with all the wins it’s a bad series if you get a lot of free throws – 14 or more in each of the last four games.
Kentucky isn’t all that great, but it has a way to get there if you can’t handle the things inside. No, it will not work 20 out of 21, as in the first meeting, but …
Tennessee – 5-6 away and 13-0 at home. The crowd will be electric, the domestic game will be strong, and Kentucky will play its third road game in four dates and the sixth of nine after defeating Tennessee.
