Macon-Bibb County is opening a new affordable housing complex

Northside Senior Village Apartments offers 72 rental units for $600 a month, helping to address the local housing crisis.

MACON, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County is moving forward with a plan to provide residents with more affordable housing.

The Macon Housing Authority cut the ribbon Wednesday on the new facility at the Northside Senior Village Apartments on Northside Drive. The site includes 72 units and the location gives residents access to shopping and dining on Tom Hill Senior Blvd.

“As everyone knows, there’s a huge need for affordable housing, and this really takes 72 units off the market, so to speak,” said Mike Austin, CEO of the Macon Housing Authority. “We’re just trying to build them as quickly as possible.”

The apartments are now available for rent for $600 a month, and the Macon Housing Authority reports that there are already 50 people on the waiting list for apartments.

The Housing Authority says it is committed to building more units and providing affordable housing to residents to help them achieve a better quality of life.
