The Bridgewater Police Department has ordered an investigation into the interior following a video that went viral on social media and shows officers ’reaction to a fight at Bridgewater Commons over the weekend.
In the video you can see two male teenagers, one black and one white, arguing, and then everything went physically. Social media users were outraged when the footage showed how the officers coped with the situation. In the video, as soon as the authorities arrive, it seems they are just taking a white teenager aside and forcibly arresting a black teenager.
According to YahooNews, the black teen was banned from the mall for the next 3 years and the other teen left without consequences.
“It’s because he’s black, racially motivated,” the video features a female voice.
On Monday, the Bridgewater Police Department said on Facebook that it knew about the video.
“We acknowledge that this video has upset members of our community, and call for an investigation into internal affairs. Officers were able to respond quickly to the incident and halt its escalation because of a tip we received from the community. “ the message said. “We have asked the Somerset County Attorney’s Office to assist us in this matter and are asking for patience as we strictly adhere to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Home Affairs Directive. https://www.njoag.gov/iapp/».
