Police: in California, a man stole a car with two children

A man faces charges after stealing a car with two girls in it in Mountain View on Christmas Day, police say.

A 28-year-old man stole a car with two screaming girls outside a Mountain View convenience store on Christmas Day, California police said.

The woman is 25 years old left two girlsages 13 and 7, in the back seat while she picked up food, police said in a news release.

She called 911 at 7:30 p.m. to report a man had stolen her car with two family members inside, police said. He was with her at the grocery store before taking her car.

When the girls started screaming in the backseat, the accused thief stopped and ordered them out of the car, the release said.

Police found the stolen vehicle in nearby Palo Alto and arrested a man on charges including carjacking, kidnapping and child endangerment, police said.

As a result of the incident, no one was injured, according to the report.

Mountain View is a city of 81,000 people located approximately 40 miles southeast of San Francisco.
