Showers possible Thursday ahead of dangerous cold front – 41NBC News

We could see a few showers on Thursday, but all eyes are on arctic air moving in on Friday

A wedge-shaped front kept Middle Georgia in clouds throughout the day, with scattered light showers.

Clouds will persist for most of the day on Thursday, with temperatures warming back into the 50s.

During the day, there will be short rains in places, but the probability of rain is higher at night.

The chance of rain will be right before our next strong cold front.

At night, the atmospheric front will descend quickly and bring gusty winds.

By Friday morning, winds will gust around 30-40 mph with temperatures in the low 20s.

Winds across Middle Georgia will be in the mid-teens and single digits.

This dangerously cold trend will continue Friday night and into Saturday.

A Wind Chill Warning has been issued since 12:00 a.m. Friday and will continue until noon Saturday.

This is for the potential of a hazardous wind of 5° to -9°.

Now is the time to prepare for this dangerous cold, including preparing the pipes and providing a warm place for pets.

When we see a combination of dangerously cold temperatures and gusty winds, it takes away the layer of heat that stays close to our skin.

This makes our skin colder and can increase your chances of hypothermia and frostbite.

Please take this storm and cold seriously.

On the bright side, we won’t be dealing with precipitation (so at least one less thing).

Christmas Day brings the start of our little warm-up that will see highs warm to the low 40s.

Warming will continue into next week, with highs eventually returning to the mid-50s and possibly into the 60s by New Year’s Eve.
