The local nonprofit continues a 37-year tradition of gift-giving

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — It’s another year of Christmas blessings for local youth and their families, thanks to a well-known Savannah charity.

For 37 years, the Martin de Porres Society of Savannah has distributed Christmas gifts to local children. The Anglican Church of Christ organized this year’s non-profit Christmas blessing event.

Volunteers handed out sacks of gifts, but the society’s president said it was just one way to help local youth throughout the year.

“I think it’s important because when we empower our youth, we empower our community, we empower our state and our nation,” said Society President Gail Brown. “So as we strengthen our youth, we also strengthen our families.”

The Martin de Porres Society was founded in 1985 by the late Dr. George and Mrs. Yolanda Negron.
