1 person was killed and 1 was injured in a shooting on Jacksonville Highway

Jacksonville, Florida – One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting Sunday morning in northwest Jacksonville.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, at about 2 a.m. two men were driving along Martin Luther King Boulevard near Canal Street when someone behind the wheel of a “dark sedan” stopped nearby, shot at the car at least six times and ran away.

The JSO said the victims tried to leave but lost control and the car drove into a ditch.

The driver died at a nearby hospital and the passenger was injured but was expected to survive, the JSO reported.

Now investigators are looking for answers and hope to have video from surveillance cameras from nearby businesses.

So far there have been no arrests, the JSO said.

News4JAX crime and security expert Ken Jefferson said the combination of events made it extremely dangerous for everyone in the area at the time, especially for those behind the wheel.

“It is very difficult to dwell on pennies in this particular place. So there could very easily have been more than one victim in this particular incident, ”Jefferson said.

In the last month, 14 reports of vandalism, 13 thefts, eight attacks and eight car burglaries have been received in the shooting area.
