A 10-year-old Jackson County girl died in a house fire News

Jackson County, Georgia (CBS46) – Police are investigating after a 10-year-old girl died in a house fire Saturday night.

At about 11:30 p.m., Jackson County MPs responded to a fire in an apartment building involving Skelton Road in Hoshton.

Calling the child’s mother, she said her daughter was trapped in the bedroom.

Deputies, arriving at the house, found that it was completely engulfed in flames. They are tried to break into the house, but due to smoke and flames they failed.

Firefighters arrived and were able to enter and find the child. The medical department took her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The mother was taken to Grady Hospital for injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
