ST. Jones County, Florida. – An extensive search is underway for a 16-year-old boy who went missing after their canoe overturned in the St. John’s River.
The St. John’s County Sheriff’s Office answered the call by 8pm on Sunday outside Fruit Cow Road and shortly thereafter posted an alert on Twitter.

SJSO, JSO, FWC, SJCFR and USCG are at the scene in response to a report of a missing 16-year-old teenager whose canoe overturned in the St. John’s River in northwestern County.

The teenager was with two other people on the St. John’s River when their canoe capsized. Two people were able to swim to shore, but they lost their sight and communication with the 3rd person.
They work with the St. John’s Fire and Rescue Service, the United States Coast Guard, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Augustine Fire Department, the St. Augustine Police Department and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Department to find Florida.
“I want to thank our partner agencies for responding immediately to the call to help find the missing teenager. Please join us in keeping the families involved in your thoughts and prayers as this search continues, ”said Sheriff Robert Hardwick.
