SPALDING DISTRICT, GA (CBS46) – Cassandra Barla’s teacher at Kennedy Road High School in Spaulding County has been charged after reportedly hitting a teacher.
According to the Spaulding County Sheriff’s Office, they were called to the school on Feb. 16 and given a video from a class showing the incident.
According to Sheriff Darrell Dix, “the video shows that when the teacher and students entered the classroom, the student was sitting at the teacher’s desk in his chair. The teacher grabbed a wired computer charger from her desk, swung the plug end of the charger at a student sitting in a chair, missed it, hit another student in the forehead, and he fell to the floor. When this student is lying on the floor, you can see the teacher 2 more times waving the rope at the student sitting in his chair while he covers himself to hold
from the blow. The first student to be hit then gets up, puts his T-shirt on his forehead, and the teacher and student leave the class. A student who was that was a punch
received a small laceration and was swollen on the forehead where he was hit. “
The sheriff’s office says Barlow came voluntarily and was questioned by investigators. After consulting with District Attorney Marie Broder’s office and state court attorney Patrick Shepard, it was decided to charge Barlow with one battery and one part of a simple attack. Barlow was then arrested.
Barlow appeared before a judge on Feb. 17, and her commitment was established. As of Thursday afternoon, she was still in custody.
Barlow was placed on administrative leave at the school prior to the results of the sheriff’s office investigation and the school system’s internal investigation.
According to the school, the students involved in the incident are fine. One student was slightly injured and was assisted by a school nurse.
