A child was killed in a house fire in Jackson County on Saturday. On Saturday around 11:30 deputies responded to a fire on Skelton Road in Hoshton. According to a statement from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the interlocutor said 9-1-1 that the child was trapped in the bedroom. When the deputies arrived, the 10-year-old girl was still trapped. They tried to go in to save her, but the flames and smoke were too strong. Firefighters soon arrived on the scene and were able to reach the girl, but she was pronounced dead immediately upon arrival at the hospital.
The man, who called 9-1-, was taken to Grady Hospital for injuries.
The names are not specified yet. The possible cause of the fire is also not reported.
The investigation is ongoing by the Georgia Fire Marshal’s Office, the Jackson County Coroner and the Jackson County Sheriff.
