(KTLA) – A home in Newport Beach, California remains dangerously close to falling off a cliff after the ground beneath it gave way Friday morning.
The multi-million dollar home has been red-tagged – meaning officials believe it poses an immediate health and safety threat – while two other homes nearby also remain at risk.
Emergency crews responded to the neighborhood, which overlooks the Newport Back Bay area, around 10:26 a.m. Friday.
Images captured by KTLA Nexstar show the home’s backyard completely swept away by the landslide, leaving chunks of cement hanging over the cliff.

Neighbors remain concerned and worried about the future stability of the land in the area.
The main affected house was tagged in red, while houses on either side were tagged in yellow, indicating less serious but significant damage. One neighboring family voluntarily evacuated, and the other is not occupied due to construction.
“My heart breaks for them,” said Ursula Breger, a neighbor.
The cause of the landslide is still being investigated. No one was injured during the collapse of the cliff.
“We’re all waiting to hear back from the geologist,” Breger said. “We’ve tested it before and I think we’re all used to it living here. Firefighters said it could have come from below.”
