In a scene right from “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” a youth group explores a cave stumbled upon the criminal hideoutaccording to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Fortunately, the convict was not there at that time, according to the DNR law enforcement department in a message on Facebook on February 14. The exact location of the cave has not been revealed, but the photos show that it rises above the reservoir.

“A group of young girls was surprised to find this recently abandoned campsite and associated rubbish in a very remote cave on their property overlooking a high, harsh cliff,” the department wrote.

The clues made Indiana conservationists realize that the mysterious tourist was “actually a convicted criminal with a long criminal history.” Government officials suspect he used the site “for good temporary storage.”

The girls avoided contact because the man had recently dared and was apprehended by law enforcement, officials said.

“Indiana Conservationists have caught up with the owner in jail, as he is currently in custody on unrelated charges,” DNR officials said.

“The ICO has informed him that he is violating the territory and that his house on the border with Indiana is being dismantled.”

The identity of the suspect has not been identified and the state has not said when he was arrested.

The photos show that his tent was cleverly set up right at the entrance to the cave. He had a change of clothes, bottled water, dried food and grills.

The location of the camp in the caves on private territory is illegal, “regardless of whether signs are placed or not,” said representatives of the “DPR”.

“If you’re going to play a mountain man, do it on your property or get permission first,” officials said.
