AlphaTauri manager Franz Toast is committed to building a successful 2021 season

Scuderia AlphaTauri last Monday unveiled its AT03 to the world in preparation for a new era Formula 1as well as the longest season in sports history. The Italian team received a very successful campaign in 2021, as a result of which they scored the best points.

Team leader Franz Toast at the start he spoke deeply about how happy he is with 2021, but even though 2022 was the longest season in sports history, the team may not be as lucky as last year.

“I am pleased with how the 2021 season went in general, ending with the best score. We have a strong team working in both Faenza and Bister, as well as a number of very good partners working with us, and we hope to continue our strong results in 2022.

“Last year we were lucky because the races were very interesting, there were always presents, but we can’t expect that to always be the case. So for me, 23 races is an absolute limit, not in terms of workload, but because I am concerned that with so many races in the end it could lead to a loss of people’s interest in Formula One.

“For me, the best number would be 18 to 20 races, because Formula 1 has to be a premium product, and we should really think about reducing the number of races to make it special. Personally, I’m good at 23 races and more, but that’s not an issue. The question is what is better for the future of Formula 1. “

New technical regulations for 2022 have been introduced to reduce the gap between the fields, allowing smaller teams with much smaller budgets to compete with the richest in the championship. From the launches that have already taken place, it is clear that each team has a different opinion on what should be the optimal design for 2022. Toast hopes the race will be closer this season.

“I think that in corners at slow and medium speeds the cars will be closer to each other. I have some doubts about the speed, because with these wide cars and big tires behind them there is always dirty air, so I’m not sure it will be so easy to follow. Let’s wait and see after the first test.

“A brand new Technical Regulation means that all teams had to design this new generation of car from scratch, from a blank sheet of paper. Although everything is quite limited by the rules, it is possible that one team has found a special solution and will therefore have an advantage in performance.

“It’s hard to estimate where the teams will be because everything is new, from the mechanical to the aerodynamic side, but personally I hope the cars will be closer to each other. In reality, we will have an idea of how good the Scuderia AlphaTauri will be after the first tests, and we will have to wait after the first two or three races to have a better picture. ”

Hasli and Tsunoda together for the second year –

While this may be the beginning of a whole new era for sports and AlphaTauri, they retain the same lineup as in 2021, with the Frenchman Pierre Gasley next door Yuki Tsunoda. Gasley was incredibly impressive and consistent in 2021, the Frenchman was a regular figure in scoring spots. Tsunoda is entering 2022 against the backdrop of an eventful season for beginners, but having learned many lessons.

Toast is particularly pleased to have kept the same lineup for this season, with the sky being the limit for a team that is constantly improving.

“I am very pleased with this lineup. Pierre is a fantastic driver, and if we give him a really good car, he has shown that he is able to win races and get on the podium. Yuki is a very skilled driver, and in a few cases he was able to show it last year, especially in the last three races where he performed very well. For him, 2021 became typical for a beginner in the first season of Formula 1, where falls and mistakes are inevitable. As a team, we prepared him well, and at the beginning of the season he had some good performances.

“Then we had to race on tracks he didn’t know, and of course with a high level of performance in Formula One, the newcomer had a hard time enrolling right away, but by the end of the season when he got more familiar with the car, the equipment, the engineers, he showed really good results. In Abu Dhabi, he finished fourth, so I’m sure he’ll be competitive. In his lead role, Pierre has already shown that he can achieve great results, so I expect a lot from both riders this year. “
