Ana de Armas receives some of the best reviews of her career for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominic’s “Blonde,” and yet she’s well aware that it’s her nude scenes that will eventually gain the most internet fame. As the actor said during it Diversity cover interview: “I know it’s going to go viral and it’s disgusting.”
“Blonde” will be broadcast worldwide Netflix starting September 28, which means viewers will be able to cut scenes from the movie or take screenshots and share them online. De Armas expects her nude scenes to be widely shared online, but the film’s reception never deterred her from playing Monroe.
“It’s upsetting just to think about it. I can’t control it; you can’t control what they do and how they take things out of context,” de Armas said of her nude scenes, which were pulled from the film. “I don’t think it made me think; to think about the future of these clips is simply unpleasant for me.”
“I did things in this movie that I would never have done for anyone else,” de Armas previously said in a cover interview about the risks she took to play Monroe. “I did it for her and I did it for Andrew.”
De Armas’ performance in “Blonde” received a 14-minute standing ovation at the film’s world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, the longest standing ovation at the event in 2022. Although the film has polarized critics, almost all experts agree that de Armas’ performance as the Hollywood icon is a must-see.
“The film is built around Ana de Armas’s performance, a captivating shimmer and fantasy, sincerity and soulful heartbeat,” Diversity film critic Owen Gleiberman wrote in his review. “It’s juicy acting with a raw scream hidden inside. … No actress alive will watch simply like Monroe, but for Marilyn, the voice is everything – it’s where her personality lives – and de Armas takes it to an incredible degree. In “The Blonde” she gives us no less than what we came for. She becomes Marilyn Monroe.”
