Complaints about Tesla’s phantom braking have prompted a federal probe

The National Road Safety Administration has initiated a new one Tesla a safety study after receiving 354 complaints from drivers about phantom braking in their cars.

Phantom braking refers to cases where the driver’s brakes are applied unexpectedly, even if the movement around them is proceeding normally or there are no obstacles that could be bypassed.

The driver wrote: “I was almost reversing when the car was going carefully and it was happening. I recorded these incidents, reported to Tesla, drove the car for diagnostics and they have no answer and believe that sometimes it can happen, however, it it shouldn’t be a problem. IT’S A DANGEROUS PROBLEM and an accident that awaits serious injury. “

Tesla has published 10 voluntary recalls in the US in just the last four months, including several in the last few weeks, according to the NHTSA website.

For example, the company published a recall that affected 578,607 cars in the U.S. for its “boombox” feature, which allowed owners to make silly noises (such as farting) from their cars while driving. Pedestrians may not hear the legally required sound of a pedestrian warning system if this feature is used, Reuters reported.

Following this recall, Tesla CEO Elon Musk described NHTSA as a “cheerful police force”.

On Thursday, when the phantom braking investigation became open, Mask’s lawyer Alex Spiro sent a letter a federal judge who accused the Securities and Exchange Commission of “harassing” the director general as a result of an ongoing investigation.

Earlier this month, Tesla pointed out that she received a summons from the SEC in November 2021, shortly after Musk conducted a Twitter poll asking whether he should sell 10% of his shares.

Tesla shares fell more than 4% on Thursday after news of the latest federal security investigation.
