With uncertainty around the future Nikita Mazepin after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Gunther Steiner I say Pietro Fitipaldi would be the first in line to replace him if the Russian loses the drive.
The future of Mazepin’s supporters – including his father Dmitry – is in doubt as a result of the invasion, and as a result, the future of their driver, and many drivers have already been linked to the seat when it becomes available.
The title sponsor of Uralkali was significantly absent on VF-22 on the last day of pre-season tests at Route Barcelona-Cataloniaand Haas to decide whether to continue relations with the Russian company before the second test begins in Bahrain next month.
And until then the team may have a different driver Mick Schumacherbut Steiner, head of the Haas team, says Fitipaldi will be the first choice if the position becomes vacant. Fitipaldi has twice played for Haas, replacing the injured Ramon Grosjean in the last two rounds of the 2020 season Sahir and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“If Nikita for one reason or another could not drive, the first call went to Peter,” Steiner told Bob Warsaw for Speed City Broadcasting. “Obviously he is [has been] with us for a few years and then see what we do next.
“But I mean Pietro is always next to us for a reason. In recent years we have needed a spare driver with COVID-19, so he is always there.
“He knows the team, he knows the car to jump from one day to the next. At the moment, there is no one better than Pietro.
