Jamal Edwards, a YouTuber and pioneering music entrepreneur who helped start the careers of artists such as Ed Sheeran, Jesse J. and Skepta, has died at the age of 31.

His mother, TV presenter Brenda Edwards, shared the news on Monday. She wrote: “I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards died yesterday morning after a sudden illness. Me, his sister Tanisha and the rest of his family and friends are completely devastated. He was the center of our world. When we came to terms with his death, we asked for privacy to mourn this unimaginable loss. I would like to thank everyone for their messages of love and support. Jamala has inspired me and many. Our love for him lives on, his legacy lives on. Long live Jamal Edwards MBE, MBA, PhD ”.
Jamal was known for his media platform SBTV, which he launched in 2006. It was a platform that highlighted new artists and helped start the careers of some of the world’s most successful musicians today, including Ed Sheeran, Dave, Jesse J., Skept and others. SBTV’s YouTube channel now has 1.2 million subscribers and almost 1 billion views.
