Jared Isaacman buys private SpaceX flights for the Polaris program

Jared Isaacman, billionaire, founder of a payment company Shift4 which took off SpaceX’s first private flight into orbit last year, has acquired three more flights in Ilona Maska company.

The first mission under the so-called Polaris program is scheduled to launch a four-man crew led by Isaacman in the fourth quarter using a Falcon 9 rocket and the Crew Dragon spacecraft. According to the program’s website, the previous Polaris Dawn flight will be the first of three missions, and the last – the first space flight with the crew of the SpaceX Starship rocket.

“The Polaris program is an important step in advancing human space exploration, while helping to solve problems through the use of innovative technologies here on Earth,” Isaacman said in a statement.

The financial terms of buying the billionaire in SpaceX are not disclosed.

Isaacman was among those who were in Presentation of starship mask last week at the company’s Texas facility. SpaceX booked a private starship flight to the moon for Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawaand Musk on Thursday hinted that even more such space flights are underway, but did not offer any specific details.

The Polaris Dawn mission will spend up to five days in orbit and aims to achieve such goals as a private company’s first spacewalk with SpaceX spacesuits, a Starlink satellite test in space and human health research.

Notably, Polaris Dawn marks the beginning of SpaceX’s own astronaut corps. Isaacman, the mission commander, will join his longtime colleague Scott Potit as pilot. Two SpaceX employees, Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon, the company’s leading space operations engineers, are completing the crew. Gillis oversees the astronaut training program, and Menon oversees the development of crew operations.

Isaacman led the historical mission of Inspiration4 in September, who spent three days in orbit in SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule with a crew of four. The main goal of Inspiration4 was to raise $ 200 million for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital; he exceeded that goal and donated more than $ 240 million to charity. Like Inspiration4, the Polaris mission will “raise funds and inform” for St. Jude, according to the program’s website.

The program also collaborates with many organizations, including the Institute for Translational Space Health Research (TRISH), BioServe Space Technologies at the University of Colorado Boulder, the Space Technology Laboratory at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Applied Weill Cornell Medical University.
