Rowland Hall 51, South Sevier 32
The Winged Lions of Rowland Hall secured a 51-42 victory over the Rams of South Sevier on Thursday afternoon during the quarterfinal round of the 2A State Basketball Tournament in downtown Sevier Valley in Richfield.
Rowland Hall, left undefeated in the regional games, had a simple philosophy on the way to the state finals.
“If the wheel doesn’t break, don’t fix it and don’t invent it,” said coach Zach Alvidres. “It’s no secret that we had an advantage in size.”
The advantage came in the form of Samuel Andrew, a senior 6 feet 4 tall, who dominated the net game against South Sevier, scoring 25 points.
“We wanted to go back inside and set the tone for the paint, which we did,” Alvidres said.
The game began with South Sevier leaping forward and the Rams leading as many as four, thanks in part to early attacks by Ridge Thebes and Emilio Miramontes. Thebes with 17 and Miramontes with 10 were leading in South Sevier.
However, one or two strikes by Andrew and teammate Ozzy Smith at Rowland Hall proved too strong for the Rams when the Winged Lions won 16-12 by the end of the first quarter.
“Smith is a damn player. He is a scorer of three levels and has reached his places, ”Alvidres said. Smith finished the game with 17 points.
The winged lions never let go of their feet from the pedal, continuing to build up the advantage.
“You have to restrain their shooters,” Alvidres said. “This is a very explosive crime against which we have worked well. This is a great team, and our guys have approached this challenge. “
Rowland Hall played a bit in the mixed zone to prevent the Rams from scoring the rhythm of points during the game.
“Everyone has entered their role,” Alvidres said. “Even if a guy comes in and gives you 30 seconds, it doesn’t matter because every role is important.”

The San Francisco-based Broncos took Rockwell out of the competition during the game with a score of 69-58 earlier that day. They finished their regional list of games with a 7-3 record before entering the tournament.
“It’s a tough San Juan team,” Alvidres said. “All season they were the unanimous team number 1. We are just looking forward to the competition. We get attached and go into battle. “
Enterprise 60, Screen 41
Nash Palmer scored 14 points and Ryland Randall and Brady Crouch added 13 each when the Enterprise overcame a poor second quarter, beating Paruen 44-20 in the second half and winning a comfortable 60-41 in the quarter-finals. ‘e. Center.

Cannab 54, Millard 50
Cannabis, seeded No. 10, continued to rise in the quarter-finals of 2A on Thursday when he stopped the rally with No. 2 and won 54-50 in the center of North Valley in Richfield.
Cannabis took the lead in the break 27-16 after a hot shot by Cassan Janes, who scored 14 of 24 points in the first half. Millard made a late attack in the fourth quarter, but Janes made four key free throws in the quarter to help save the win.
Jordan Cornell added 12 points to the Cowboys. Peyton Rasmussen of Millard led his team, scoring 19 points with five three-pointers in defeat.

San Juan 69, Rockwell 58
San Juan is one step closer to the state doubles champion in football and basketball. The Broncos, seeded top, overcame a slow first quarter and a four-point deficit at the break to bypass Rockwell’s No. 8 and win 69-58 over Rockwell at the North Valley Center.
Jensen Grover led the attack for San Juan with 24 points and Cooper Black added 20 points. Rockwell’s loss was led by Weston Henderson, who scored 15 points, and David Christiansen added 14.
“After getting rid of the excitement in the first half and getting rid of most of the unforced turns, we managed to get ahead in the third period and retain the lead despite Rockwell’s intense style of play that never gave up. The boys are happy to move on again, ”said San Juan coach Travis Black.
