SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – John Behrendt’s “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” will be adapted into a Broadway musical, reports Deadline and The World of Broadway.
The 1994 New York Times bestseller tells The Savannah Story, based on a series of true events in the 1980s during the trial of the murder of an antiques dealer.
Playwright Taylor Mack is reportedly adapting the book with director Rob Ashford, lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and choreography by Tanya Birle and Sarah O’Gleby.
An invitation-only industry reading will be held in New York City this May.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was also adapted into the 1997 Clint Eastwood film of the same name.
