Minnesota vs. Michigan State Game Preview
Why Minnesota will win
Since when did Minnesota become the greatest show on the Turf?
#2 in the nation in total offense – behind Ohio State – #1 in time of possession, #2 in rushing yards, #1 in third-down conversions, #7 in scoring, #9 in yards for performance, #4 in first downs…
And the protection works too.
No. 2 in the nation in total defense – behind James Madison, by the way – No. 4 in scoring D, No. 4 in passing D, No. 9 in scoring defense, No. 1 in third down stops and…
Minnesota is playing well.
Sure, New Mexico State, Western Illinois and Colorado play like they have seven guys on the field, but the Gophers used them as warmups. They get Mohamed Ibrahim up and going, Tanner Morgan and the passing game have been terrific, and this has been as strong a series as they’ve had under PJ Fleck.
Michigan State, on the other hand, was exposed last week. The nation’s worst pass defense in 2021, which was supposedly fixed, Michael Penix and Washington put up nearly 400 yards, the running game hit a wall, and…
Why Michigan State Will Win
Washington is fantastic.
No, Michigan State 2021 isn’t terrible against the pass, and yes, the running game is fine. The team still struggled late to make it interesting in a 39-28 loss, and again, Washington is outstanding.
Minnesota might look great, but to keep hammering this house, they have played NO ONE yet. He’s done what you’re supposed to do against bad teams, but there’s a huge factor that backs that up considering he hasn’t dealt with anyone who can run like the Spartans and can take the ball away enough to matter.
For all the good things the Golden Gophers do, they don’t generate takeaways, losing top WR Chris Otman-Bell for the season matters and…

What will happen
Minnesota doesn’t screw up.
This is the biggest result from an easy first three games – the team is sharp, even if it doesn’t have to be.
There have been only two turnovers and ten penalties in three games, and they won’t start making big mistakes in a game like this.
Michigan State will play better than Seattle, but Minnesota will continue to dominate the possession battle — it’s held the ball for a nation-leading 40 minutes per game — and it’s going to have to fight a late, grinding drive to close it out.
