Mutts on Main returns to Gainesville on March 25th

Mutts on Main in Downtown Gainesville returns to the historic square on March 25th.

According to Main Street manager Nicole Parham, VolThe annual pet show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will highlight the adoption/fostering of dogs at the Hall County Animal Shelter.

“On any given day, the town square is pet friendly, but on this day we’re celebrating all things dog, and dogs will be everywhere,” Parham said.. “Bring a dog, buy your own dog, enjoy other people’s dogs, enjoy dog fun, and hopefully we’ll see as many dogs as possible adopted by our partners who work together as the main response teams in Hall County. In-person adoptions at the event will be hosted by the Hall County Animal Shelter.”

Those attending the event can enjoy dog shows with a “K-9s in Flight” drive at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

K-9 units from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the Gainesville Police Department will also be on hand, and the HCSO will offer a demonstration at 11 a.m. followed by a meet and greet. GPD K-9s will visit and meet participants at 2:00 p.m

Mutts on Main will also feature a fashion show featuring local boutiques and dogs up for adoption starting at noon. As part of the fashion show, there will be pet competitions for “Best Dressed”, “Best Trick” and “Similar”. 100 percent of the proceeds from the $5 entry fee will go to support animal adoptions at the shelter.

There will also be a live performance by the Becky Simon Band at 12:45 p.m

“This community-loved, smaller expo-style event is a good way to encourage people to soak up the sun, enjoy each other’s company and have plenty of room to move around, shop and enjoy the downtown atmosphere,” Parham said.

Parham emphasized that the show will feature several pet-related vendors and artisans offering products such as pet food, pet clothing and pet portraits.

“We’ll also have Paw Paws Peanuts for the humans and frozen treats from Frozen Frenzee for the pups!” she said.

Parham also noted that attendees will have the opportunity to purchase T-shirts commemorating the event.

Parham encourages visitors to consider donating dry dog and cat food, which will benefit pets owned by Meals on Wheels of Gainesville Hall County’s favorite clients, while they’re there. Organized by the city in recognition of Georgia Cities Week, April 23-29, this pet food drive aims to ensure that every member of the families of Meals on Wheels clients is well-nourished and cared for. Donations will be accepted from April 3rd to 28th at various locations around the city, but your early contributions to Mutts on Main will help the volunteers get a strong start and make sure no pet goes hungry.

All dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash, according to a press release. Trash bags will be placed throughout the plaza to help preserve the beauty of downtown Gainesville.

Bradford Street will be closed during the event and those traveling in the area are urged to drive carefully and watch out for pedestrians and pets.
