New restaurant: Sonny’s BBQ is opening in Macon, Georgia

Without fanfare, Sonny’s Barbecue opened Tuesday in Macon.

Sonny’s BBQ Restaurants known for their slow-smoked Southern barbecue, including pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked turkey, chicken and ribs.

This is the third Sonny’s BBQ in Middle Georgia for Brad Fink, owner of Prime Hospitality, a Sonny’s BBQ franchisee. He opened Warner Robins in 1997 and Perry in 1999.

“We’re very happy to be here in Macon,” said Fink, who lives near the new Macon location and attended the opening.

“We’re just completely hands-on, from washing dishes to pit master duties,” said Fink, who will operate three of his restaurants.

His wife, Gina, served as hostess. She works part-time and also does bookkeeping for their restaurants.

The new 4,900-square-foot restaurant at 5811 Zebulon Road in Macon offers 156 seats inside, a covered patio that seats another 30, a full bar, a takeout station and drive-thru.

Food

The menu includes pitmaster plates with your choice of meat, BBQ beans, coleslaw and bread, BBQ signature plates, BBQ sandwiches and signature sandwiches, and salads with your choice of meat.

Side dishes include sliced ​​fries, homemade mac and cheese, cake, baked sweet potato, corn, green beans, “original recipe” barbecue beans, side dish, baked potato and broccoli.

Appetizers include stuffed tots, BBQ pork egg rolls, smoked wings, corn nuggets and fried okra, while desserts include cinnamon sugar doughnuts, chocolate chip cookies and banana pudding.

Beverages include Sonny’s signature tea, lemonade, bottled water, sodas, and a full bar.

Opening hours are 11am to 9pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to 9.30pm Friday and Saturday. The number is 478-285-8700.

The former Finca Sonny’s BBQ location in Macon at 4684 Presidential Parkway was open from 2002 to 2013.

Founded in 1968 in Gainesville, Florida, Sonny’s BBQ has more than 90 locations.

The new Macon location is nearby Macon’s first rock and roll sushi at 5791 Zebulon Road, Suite D. The new Tropical Cafe and Piedmont Urgent Care in the same building as Rock N Roll Sushi are also open.

The Sonny’s BBQ and Rock N Roll Sushi/Tropical Smoothie Cafe/Piedmont Urgent Care building is located across from the Lofts at Zebulon at 5801 Zebulon Road.
