CONLEY, Georgia (WHNT) — The US Food and Drug Administration is recalling several ready-to-eat vegetable products due to possible listeria contamination announced on Tuesday.
GHGA is recalling various products, including diced vegetables, salsas and dips, after the firm was notified on Sept. 16 that a single sample of the product tested positive for the bacteria.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a serious infection. It can also cause common symptoms of food poisoning.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that about 1,600 people contract listeriosis each year, resulting in about 260 deaths. Pregnant women and their newborns, adults over 65 and people with weakened immunity are most often affected.
The FDA says the products were sold primarily at Kroger locations in Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia.
The recall affects all of the following products:

According to the FDA, the products were sold by Kroger and distributed to retail stores on September 11. Officials say the “sell by” date has passed and the products have been removed from store shelves, but they are warning anyone who may still have the items to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
The products were packaged in clear plastic containers with sell-by dates and lot numbers listed on the top main label of each item.
