Two 18-year-old suspects have been charged with shooting several victims from a moving car in Sandy Springs on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim called police at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 to report that he had been shot several times with a handgun at Johnson-Ferry Road in the Bonnie Lane area, the Sandy Springs Police Department said. The victim described in detail the SUV and in which direction he was driving.
The victim said he heard at least five shots. From the force of three shots that hit his body, the victim fell to the ground. He was assisted at the scene.
When officers investigated the incident, 911 received another victim of an SUV shooting, this time in the Wieuca Road area near Dudley Lane, which is within the city of Atlanta.
The Sandy Springs reconnaissance team identified the vehicle and began tracking it. Officers spotted him near Roswell Road and Windsor Parkway. As a result of the stop, both passengers of the vehicle were detained.
Officers saw two rifle-style weapons in plain sight in the SUV and determined it was grenades, “air” rifles, an SSPD spokesman said.
The suspects were taken to the SPD headquarters for an interview with operatives.
Based on the evidence in the car, the identification of the suspects by the victim and these interviews, both suspects were charged with assault under aggravating circumstances, beatings and possession of forged identity cards.
An SSPD spokesman said SSPD officers hid photos of the suspects and their photos from the booking to preserve the integrity of the investigation. Investigators believe there may be more victims. Concealment of information was necessary as potential victims may need to view photos of the suspects to identify them.
Sandy Springs Police shared information with the Atlanta Police Department to assist them in the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing, additional charges are possible. Anyone who has information on the case or believes he has become a victim should contact Detective Morgan at WMorgan@SandySpringsGa.Gov or the local police station where the incident occurred.
