SCCPSS begins search for next superintendent

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Members of the Savannah-Chatham County School Board say the next superintendent must be trustworthy and put the organization’s interests above all others.

It happens after Dr. Anne Levett announced her retirement in January.

Board members held a superintendent search workshop Wednesday morning. They discussed different ways to start the selection process.

Members are looking for the candidate who will best fit the needs of the community. Although the board has the final say in who will be the next superintendent, they want to hear from you.

The council is working on creating focus groups, town halls – and an online survey so that everyone is included in the search.

“I enjoy hearing a lot from our parents and from our high school students,” said Cornelia Hall, District 3, SCCPSS Board of Education. “So often people come in led by the taxpayers, and that’s true, we’re all taxpayers, but the parents and the students themselves really have a vested interest in what’s going on.”

We are still awaiting word on which firm the board will select to conduct the search.

The official schedule for the selection of a new head has not been determined. WSAV News 3 will continue to bring you the latest information on the search as it becomes available.
