The 13th episode of the 47th season of the main night opened with stars Kate McKinnon and Sicily Strong, who introduced members of the Ukrainian choir “Thought” from New York. A group of singers dressed in intricate traditional costumes sang an exciting choral selection of “Prayer for Ukraine”, reflecting the resilient spirit of the nation, which has been under attack from Russia since early this week on various fronts.

Candles and bouquets of yellow flowers reminiscent of the national colors of Ukraine – yellow and blue – were found on the SNL stage in a gloomy atmosphere. After the song ended, McKinnon and Strong returned to perform with the opening of “Live Broadcast from New York, It’s Saturday Night,” while the camera zoomed in on a group of candles that read “Kiev,” the Ukrainian capital.

Today’s episode is hosted by an SNL graduate. John Mulani, who joins the famous club of “five-time” presenters who have performed before the show five or more times. The list included Steve Martin, Drew Barrymore, Tina Faye, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Scarlett Johansson and Melissa McCarthy.

Actor Paul Rad was the last to join the five-time band on Dec. 18 when he hosted the release of “SNL” without a studio audience due to a spike in the omicron variant of COVID, which hit New York hard late last year.
