Student loan relief: Senior Biden adviser says ‘we’re going to win’ after judge rejects plan

(A hill) – Anita Dunn, a senior adviser to President Biden, said Sunday that the administration is set to win a court battle for student debt relief after a federal judge rejected the administration’s initiative earlier this week.

Texas District Judge Mark Pittman on Friday knocked down the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness initiative, saying the proposed program is an “unconstitutional exercise of Congress’ legislative authority.”

During Dan’s appearance on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” moderator Margaret Brennan noted that millions of young voters voted Democratic in last week’s midterm elections because of the expectation that their loans would be forgiven.

Dunn said the administration fully expected to win because the law was on its side.

“And make no mistake about it… President Biden made this commitment to the people of America. It is not only young people. It’s people of all ages, too, Dan Brennan said.

“We believe that we will win in court. And at that point, we’re going to move quickly to make sure that the more than 26 million people right now who have the information that this administration has, we’re going to move quickly to forgive the loan,” Dunn added.

The lawsuit against the Biden administration was filed last month by the conservative advocacy group Job Creators Network Foundation on behalf of two borrowers who were ineligible for benefits under the program.

The Biden administration’s student debt initiative will include $10,000 in loan forgiveness for borrowers earning less than $125,000 a year and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients.
