The city is asking residents to recycle vegetable oil from the Thanksgiving holiday

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — It’s Thursday night, you’re stuffed with a Thanksgiving feast, and now you’re tempted to pour the used cooking oil down the drain. But don’t do it.

The City of Savannah asks that you bag it up and recycle it.

The city is hosting an oil recycling event on Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Place used cooking oil in a plastic or glass container and bring it to 1400 East President Street.

The city says pouring vegetable oil down the drain can kill them and be expensive to repair. It can also cause sewer overflows that cause pollution in Savannah’s waterways.
