The Georgia College Fraternity Branch is closing

Sigma Alpha Epsilon confirmed the closing of the chapter on its website on Friday.

MILJVIL, GEORGIA (41NBC / WMGT) – The office of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Georgia College and State University is closing.

This is stated in a statement on the website of the national organizationwhich states that the closure is due to “violation of the expectations and recommendations of the fraternity in the field of health and safety.”

“Although the suspension of any department of our Brotherhood is unfortunate, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has decided to close its department at the College of Georgia and State University for violating our expectations and recommendations in the field of health and safety,” the statement said. “Moving forward, we will continue to work with our graduate volunteers and university officials to determine the appropriate time to return to campus. Our goal has always been and will remain an example of our beliefs set forth in our “True Gentleman” credo, and to provide a meaningful, safe, and rewarding experience for Georgia College, Milwaukee State University, and the community.

In November 2021 eight people have been arrested and charged with providing alcohol to minors following an incident involving “alleged drinking and hazing involving the SAE fraternity,” a Milledgeville police press release said. One of the eight detainees was also charged with hazing. At least one person was taken to hospital.

The National Brotherhood and College of Georgia suspended the branch after the incident.
