The newest Pelican McCollum has not spoken to Zion since 9 February

The New Orleans Pelicans purchased CJ McCollum 10 days ago, but a veteran of the Rifle Guard has not yet spoken directly to the injured franchise star Zion Williamson.

“I didn’t talk to him directly,” McCollum told Inside the NBA on Saturday’s All-Star Weekend. Christian Clark of NOLA.com. “I’ve talked to some people close to him and I’m looking forward to sitting down with him sooner rather than later.

“I know about as much as you do, but I’m going to figure it out.”

Williamson, who participated in the All-Star Game last year, has not appeared in the game this season. Choice number 1 of 2019 has rehabilitated a broken right leg from the team since January.

However, Williamson’s new teammate wants to start building a bond.

“He’s a big part of our future,” McCollum said. “Obviously we look forward to his return.”

McCall averaged 28.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists in five games for Pelican.
