There is no clear answer to the absence in MCL36 of guinea pigs in F1 tests

When Formula One teams received the first launches of new technology in 2022, many were amazed by the jumping phenomenon experienced by their drivers when their cars were gaining top speed in a straight line.

Kee admitted that the team was not smart enough to create a car that would specifically solve the problem, but he also believes that its design proved to be so stable not by chance.

“I’d like to point out that we were very smart, but the reality is that it’s very difficult to model,” Key explained.

“This includes tire stiffness and lifting modes of your car. Because obviously if it’s consonant with the chassis, then you really see it fade when you get the natural frequency. There is also a front weight.

“So I don’t think it’s entirely luck. I think the stability of the car plays a role in this, and how well the car holds up to the load in different road conditions and so on.

“But I would be lying if I said it was intended. I think this is a phenomenon we will all get used to while running on the track with these cars. And hopefully we will be able to smooth this over time and learn how to fix it as a problem. ”

However, Kee felt that defeat could be something that teams never get rid of completely, and drivers may have to live on certain tracks.

“I think there will probably always be such a reaction to proximity to the ground, because these are machines with a ground effect,” he added.

“I think it’s inherent, and that’s why we’re watching it now. But I think we will learn to manage it.

“There is still a lot to find and a lot to learn in these cars. So I don’t think this phenomenon can be eradicated because it’s a physical thing. But in terms of managing it, I think that after a little work on development it can be a much smaller problem and a topic for conversation. ”
