(WXIN) – Wendy’s chili hits store shelves.

Conagra Brands, a packaged food company that owns dozens of popular brands, opened the news during the Consumer Analyst Group conference in New York last week.

It is not yet clear if the chili will be available at multiple retailers or will be offered exclusively in select stores.

Chili peppers have been on the Wendy’s menu since the chain’s founding in 1969. As founder Dave Thomas detailed in his memoir, Dave’s Way, Wendy’s introduced chili as a way to use leftover hamburger meat and reduce waste. Puree.

The Wendy’s-branded canned chili will be sold in 15-ounce cans, according to reports List of Instacart cited by Tasting table. The product page says the chili will be made with “minimally processed” beef and will contain 29 grams of protein per serving.

A canned version is expected to be available by the end of 2023.
